About the Analysis Division Internship
Valens Global is seeking full-time interns to spend the spring 2018 semester with our Analysis division. You should be able to commit to working 30-40 hours per week. Interns will receive a monthly stipend of $2,000, prorated if the interns work fewer than 40 hours a week. Work for the internship can be performed in Valens’s D.C. office or else remotely.
Your experience with the Analysis division would be research-centric. We give our interns the opportunity to provide analysis and research assistance on a range of projects, including threat assessments, briefings, reports, and even books. Over the course of the semester, interns will build skills in research methodology, open-source intelligence analysis, and analytic writing.
Ideal candidates should be prepared to contribute immediately to the Analysis team, and should even be able to take the lead on a variety of projects should the need arise. Consistent with Valens Global’s organizational philosophy, interns are encouraged to challenge conventional wisdom and critically analyze existing problems. Projects will be writing intensive. We want you to be able to produce polished, well-organized, thoughtful prose. Interns will be expected to consult a wide range of open-source materials, including primary and secondary sources, and social media data. We want you to come into your job knowing where to look.
The candidate must be organized. The candidate must be able to work effectively under pressure. The candidate will be expected to stay on top of deadlines and produce quality work products within tight time constraints. And on top of all that, we want you to be likeable. Interested candidates should demonstrate strong interest in the study of violent non-state actors. Applicants would ideally have prior research experience, and have the ability to think creatively about complex problems. Dedication, focus, and enthusiasm are valued. The ability to conduct research in a foreign language is a plus, but not required.
