About Valens Global
Valens Global is a private firm that focuses on understanding the challenges posed by violent non-state actors, and fashioning innovative solutions for protecting our clients’ interests. Our head office is located in Washington, D.C. Valens is a young organization—self-consciously a start-up firm—that is not afraid to think differently. We believe that the world’s growing sub-state threats require analysts who are fiercely independent, in command of granular details, rigorous, and innovative. We have repeatedly challenged the field’s conventional wisdom—and have emerged with an exceptionally strong track record as a result.

Valens fosters an intellectually vibrant climate that emphasizes teamwork, empowerment at junior levels, and quality. We are proud of our record of consistently delivering products that represent the organization well and stand the test of time. At Valens, you would be part of a smart, talented, and confident team of people with interesting and diverse backgrounds, experiences, and outlooks. We think Valens is a great place to work, and we believe that you will too.

Valens Global boasts a stable of clients with whom we love to work, and are proud to associate. Our clients include U.S. government agencies, tech firms, oil and gas companies, academic institutions, think tanks, and a host of other entities that need to better understand how violent non-state actors are changing the world, and safeguard their interests, assets, personnel, and values.

About the Analysis Division Internship
Valens Global is seeking full-time interns to spend the spring 2018 semester with our Analysis division. You should be able to commit to working 30-40 hours per week. Interns will receive a monthly stipend of $2,000, prorated if the interns work fewer than 40 hours a week. Work for the internship can be performed in Valens’s D.C. office or else remotely.

Your experience with the Analysis division would be research-centric. We give our interns the opportunity to provide analysis and research assistance on a range of projects, including threat assessments, briefings, reports, and even books. Over the course of the semester, interns will build skills in research methodology, open-source intelligence analysis, and analytic writing.

Ideal candidates should be prepared to contribute immediately to the Analysis team, and should even be able to take the lead on a variety of projects should the need arise. Consistent with Valens Global’s organizational philosophy, interns are encouraged to challenge conventional wisdom and critically analyze existing problems. Projects will be writing intensive. We want you to be able to produce polished, well-organized, thoughtful prose. Interns will be expected to consult a wide range of open-source materials, including primary and secondary sources, and social media data. We want you to come into your job knowing where to look.

The candidate must be organized. The candidate must be able to work effectively under pressure. The candidate will be expected to stay on top of deadlines and produce quality work products within tight time constraints. And on top of all that, we want you to be likeable. Are you up for the challenge? Read on.
